Coastal Service

In 2008 Strait Shipping extended its service to include the Port of Lyttelton.

The twice weekly overnight service between the Ports of Wellington and Lyttleton provide a vital link between Canterbury and the existing coastal services to Nelson, Marlborough, and Wellington.

The MV Kent - catering for a broad range of cargo including vehicles, heavy machinery, containers and break-bulk - services the new route as well as Nelson. Strait Shipping’s Cook Strait service of up to four crossings a day compliment the coastal service.

Terminal tractors are available to transport containers and with six and twelve metre Mafi trailers plus the Kent's door dimensions at five metres high by ten metres wide, the service is capable of transporting all kinds of freight to and from the wharf.
