About Us
Strait Shipping is New Zealand's leading shipping business - operating Cook Strait ferry services since 1992.
Established in 1992 with the MV Straitsman its capacity has steadily grown over the years with its fleet currently consisting of the Kent, Santa Regina and Monte Stello. In 2003, the company diversified into the passenger service market with the launch of the Bluebridge ferry service. With around 30 return sailings across Cook Strait each week, Strait Shipping transports hundreds of thousands of tonnes of livestock and cargo freight between the North and South Island all year round.
Strait Shipping's freight only vessel, the Kent, also does a weekly scheduled coastal service linking Nelson, Marlborough, Wellington and Lyttelton - New Zealand's only freight coastal service on this route.
Between them, our ships offer just under 10,000 metres of roll-on/roll-off space every day, with a capacity for most over sized loads.
